An Öresund Metro between Copenhagen and Malmö will ensure better coherence between the regions.

An Öresund Metro between Copenhagen and Malmö will result in an expansion of the regions’ common labour market and an increase in the number of jobs within a radius of 60 minutes from 800,000 to 1.3 million.

An Öresund Metro with departures every 1.5 minutes between Copenhagen and Malmö will reduce the travel time by around 20 minutes. The travel time will therefore be halved.

Phase III examined the link with high-speed rail, weighting of the functionality, costs and environmental impacts, connecting-up of districts in Copenhagen and Malmö, effects of shorter travel time, and communication concerning an Öresund Metro.

Phases I and II of the preliminary study examined construction technology, routing, station design, environmental impacts, socioeconomics and dynamic effects.

The report describes and evaluates three organisation and financing models for realising an Öresund Metro. Based on the economic analysis, it is assessed that there are no major economic differences between the three models.
