From road to rail and driverless green mobility

The EU has an objective that, by 2050, more freight transport should shift from road to rail. The Öresund Metro between Copenhagen and Malmö will make it possible to transport more freight over the Öresund Fixed Link. An Öresund Metro running on climate-friendly electricity can, from 2035, easily and quickly transport passengers between Copenhagen and Malmö.

The EU is aiming at shifting 30% of road freight over 300 km to rail or waterborne transport by 2030 and more than 50% by 2050. To meet this goal will also require approriate infrastructure to be developed. An Öresund Metro between Copenhagen and Malmö could shift the high number of passenger journeys from regional trains to the fast and high-frequency metro connection. The high-frequency and punctuality of the Öresund Metro will further increase sustainable and public transport mobility between Denmark and Sweden.
